M05 · Problem 11 ★★★ Check

Almgren–Chriss with drift

Let the unaffected price have drift α\alpha (₹ per share per day): dS=α dt+σ dWdS = \alpha\,dt + \sigma\,dW. For a sell programme in continuous time with temporary impact η\eta and risk aversion λ\lambda, show that E[IS]=12γX2+η∫0Tx˙2dt−α∫0Tx dtE[\text{IS}] = \tfrac12\gamma X^2 + \eta\int_0^T\dot x^2dt - \alpha\int_0^Tx\,dt and derive the optimal trajectory. Specialise to λ=0\lambda = 0 and evaluate for the 5.7 stock with α=±₹5\alpha = \pm\text{₹}5 per day. What constraint must you add if α\alpha is large and positive?
