Intermediate Piano Course
Welcome back, Gaurav. You finished the beginner course. You can read both clefs, play scales with both hands, voice chords cleanly, and perform complete songs. That is a real achievement — and it means you are ready for what comes next.
The intermediate course is bigger, deeper, and more musically rewarding than the beginner course. You will learn new genres, improvise for the first time, explore Indian ragas on your keyboard, and finish with five polished performance pieces across classical, pop, jazz, Indian, and a genre of your choice.

Prerequisites Check
Section titled “Prerequisites Check”Before starting Session 1, confirm you have completed the beginner course and can honestly check off most items on the beginner course’s readiness checklist:
Intermediate Readiness Checklist (Beginner Course)
You should already be able to:
- Play 6 scales (C, G, F major and A, D, E natural minor) hands together
- Play basic triads (C, F, G, Am, Dm, Em) with C and Am inversions
- Read both treble and bass clef notation
- Perform 3+ polished songs with both hands
- Sight-read simple single-hand passages in C and G position
- Hear the difference between major and minor chords, identify intervals up to a 5th, and play back 4-5 note melodies by ear
If you scored below 80% on that checklist, go back and strengthen those areas first. The intermediate course builds directly on every beginner skill — gaps now become walls later.
What’s Different About the Intermediate Course
Section titled “What’s Different About the Intermediate Course”This is not just “more of the same.” Here is what changes:
| Beginner | Intermediate | |
|---|---|---|
| Sessions | 20 sessions at 60 minutes | 25 sessions at 75 minutes |
| Phases | 4 phases | 5 phases |
| Daily practice | 30-45 minutes | 45-60 minutes |
| Genres | General piano | Classical, pop, jazz/blues, Indian |
| Improvisation | None | Pentatonic, blues, chord-tone soloing |
| Indian music | A few Bollywood melodies | Raga theory (Yaman, Bhairavi, Des), advanced Bollywood arrangements |
| Independence | Follow instructions closely | Start making your own musical decisions |
| CT-X9000IN | Basic tones and metronome | Layer, split, registration memory, MIDI recording, Indian tones mastery |
You will also encounter lead sheets, modes, transcription by ear, and performance preparation — skills that move you from “student” to “musician.”

- Read Keyboard Advanced Features — unlock your CT-X9000IN’s layer, split, registration memory, and recording capabilities

Done? Open Session 01 and begin.
How This Course Works
Section titled “How This Course Works”25 sessions, 75 minutes each. Follow them in order. Each session has six segments:
| Segment | Duration | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| Warm-up & Review | 10 min | Scales, arpeggios, review of last session |
| Theory / Harmony | 10 min | One new concept with keyboard demonstration |
| Technique | 15 min | Hands-on drills for the new skill |
| Repertoire / Genre | 25 min | Applying skills to actual pieces — the core learning |
| Creative / Ear Training | 10 min | Improvisation, ear training, transcription |
| Review & Homework | 5 min | Summary and specific weekly practice assignments |
Practice between sessions. Aim for 45-60 minutes daily using your weekly practice plan. This is where scales become fluent, chords become automatic, and pieces become polished.
Handouts support sessions. Sessions tell you when to read a specific handout. You do not need to read them all upfront — follow the references as they appear.
Genre guides pair with specific phases. Read the relevant genre handout before or alongside the session that introduces that genre (see the “When to Read” notes below).
Improvisation guides build through Phase 4. Start using them from Session 18 onward, when improvisation is formally introduced.
Assessments mark your milestones. After each phase (every 5 sessions), take the checkpoint to measure your progress. These are self-assessments, not exams.

One Last Thing
Section titled “One Last Thing”You already know how this works. You have been through 20 sessions, built real skills, and proven you can stick with it. The intermediate course is the same approach — just deeper, wider, and more musically rewarding.
Seventy files might look like a lot. But you only need to open one at a time. The sessions guide you through everything in order, and this page is always here when you need to find something.
See you at the keyboard.
